Errors and Corrections for Your New International Version Bible

    • Biblical References are from the King James Authorized Version
    • Corrections for the NIV are in Bolded Black Text
    • Errors found in the NIV are in Bolded Red Text
    • Additional Notes are in Green Text
If you haven't read it yet, you may want to take a look at my essay:
    Which Bible Version Is Best?

The Authorized King James Version of the Bible is considered by many to be the most accurate English translation of the Father's Word ... however, it does contain inexcusable errors ... and the Olde English is very difficult to assimilate. On the other hand, the NIV reads easy - it's written in a more familiar, present-day form of English and interprets the original Aramaic/Hebrew and Greek languages with greater and more precise accuracy than any other version I know of - except for the HalleluYah Scriptures .

Obviously, we live in an imperfect world and there exists no Bible that is without fault. However, the greatest fault of them all, in my opinion, is the downright abomination that so many English versions of the Father's Word has performed ... and that is the absolute removal of the Father's hallowed and sacred Name YHWH , commonly referred to as the Tetragrammaton which simply means "four-lettered word." If you read the Preface or Introduction of your own NIV, you'll see reference to this act stating something to the effect that YHWH has been replaced with Lord. I implore you to educate yourself further on this matter by reading my essay:

The NIV is not as poor as many others, but it does have some very serious faults. If you own a New International Version of the Bible, get yourself a fresh cup of coffee, grab your favorite markers or pens and start noting the 219 errors and corrections (as of November 2010) which I have listed below. It takes a few hours to do this ... but when you are finished, you will have a fully Corrected NIV Bible!

Before we begin with errors that are unique to the NIV, here are three that generally occur in most Bible versions:

    • Error -- Genesis 4:26 Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh. At that time men began to call on the name of the LORD.
    • Seth's son Enosh was the one who introduced apostasy to that world -- a fact that is masked by the mistranslation in bold type above, which should read:
"... At that time men began to profane the name of YHWH."
    • The key to finding this error lies not in the words call on, but rather in the word began which is referenced as Strong's #02490 and, aside from making much more sense, reveals the true meaning to this passage of Scripture.
    • Error -- Exodus 6:3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name YHWH was I not known to them.
    • The above is made a statement when it should be a question -- this important fact, revealed in the original Hebrew-Aramaic Scripture, is made unclear by the mistranslation in bold type above, which should read:
"... by my name YHWH was I not known to them? "

    • Error -- Numbers 11:25 And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that [was] upon him, and gave [it] unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, [that], when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
    • The above is easily misunderstood and, in fact (I believe), misleading. If you look earlier on, at verses 10 and 13, Moses tells YHWH that the people are complaining, saying that they want meat. In verse 19, YHWH tells him that He is going to practically bury them in meat! And, in verse 25, the 70 elders prophesy about the unbelievable amount of meat that YHWH is going to bestow on the people ... and the people stopped their complaining.

The NIV and the KJV miss it completely; the Aramaic Peshitta is the only English version that gets it right, saying "when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and then they ceased to complain.". This verse should read:

"Then YHWH came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took of the Spirit that was on him and put the Spirit on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, and then the people stopped their complaining. "

    • Error -- Daniel 3:25 (Amplified, ESV, NASB, NIV, RSV, ASV, HNV): He said, "Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods."
    • Error -- NLT: "... the fourth looks like a divine being !"
    • All of the above versions should read as it is (correctly) found in the KJV and in the NKJV :
"... the fourth looks like the Son of God."

    • Error -- Hebrews 3:11 & 4:3, referencing Psalm 95:7 (Amplified, ESV, NASB, NIV, RSV, ASV, HNV): Most Bibles say something to the effect of "They shall never enter my rest."
    • All Bible versions should read something to the effect of "If they shall enter into my rest."

    General Omissions and Errors

    • Genesis 12:18-19 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me?why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife? Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife.
    • Error: The NIV reads: Why didn't you tell me she was your wife? Why did you say she is my sister, so that I took her to be my wife.
    • The wording in the NIV implies that Pharaoh had already taken Sarah as his wife and had sexual intercourse with her, which was not the case.

    • Exodus 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain ; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
    • Error: The NIV reads: You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
    • The wording in the NIV implies that misusing YHWH's name is the point being made ... but taking YHWH's name in vain goes much deeper than simply misusing His Name.Taking His Name in vain means not publishing His Name (Deuteronomy 32:3) ... not giving Him the glory due unto His Name (1 Chronicles 16:29) ... not singing praises to His Name (Psalm 7:17) ... not remembering His Name (Psalm 20:7) ... not exhalting His Name (Psalm 34:3) ... not knowing His Name (Psalm 91:14) ... not walking in His Name (Micah 4:5) ... or not glorifying His Name (Malachi 2:2).

    • Numbers 11:25 And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that [was] upon him, and gave [it] unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, [that], when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
    • Error: The NIV reads: Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took of the Spirit that was on him and put the Spirit on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did not do so again.
    • The wording in the NIV adds a footnote, saying "Or prophesied and continued to do so" ... however, both the NIV and KJV are inaccurate! If you look earlier on, at verses 10 and 13, Moses tells YHWH that the people are complaining, saying that they want meat. In verse 19, YHWH tells Moses that He is going to practically bury them in meat! And, in verse 25, the 70 elders prophesy about the unbelievable amount of meat that YHWH is going to bestow on the people ... and the people stopped their complaining.

The Aramaic Peshitta is the only English version that gets it right, saying "when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and then they ceased to complain." This verse should read: "Then YHWH came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took of the Spirit that was on him and put the Spirit on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, and then the people stopped their complaining. "

    • Isaiah14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!
    • Error: The NIV reads: How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star ; son of the dawn.
    • The NIV Study Bible does clarify this error in the Study Notes.
    • Jesus Christ is the Morning Star and is identified as such in Revelation 22:16 and 2 Peter 1:19.
    • The original Hebrew word that is being translated as morning star in the NIV is heylel - Strong's #01966 ; (pronounced -- hay-lale') -- a word that refers specifically to Lucifer and/or the King of Babylon.

    • Psalm 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
    • Error: The NIV reads: Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
    • The wording in the NIV implies that David was sinful at birth, but the original Hebrew tells us that he is speaking of his mother's sinfulness ; being a sinner when she conceived him - David is not speaking of his own sin.

    • Proverbs 8:24 When there were no oceans, I was brought forth,
    • Error: The NIV reads: When there were no oceans, I was given birth,
    • The wording in the NIV implies that Yahshua (Jesus) is a created being, having been given birth, but the original Hebrew tells us that he was brought forth ; not birthed.

    • Proverbs 8:25-b Before the hills, I was brought forth,
    • Error: The NIV reads: Before the hills, I was given birth,
    • The wording in the NIV implies that Yahshua (Jesus) is a created being, having been given birth, but the original Hebrew tells us that he was brought forth ; not birthed.

    • Hosea 1:6 And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And [God] said unto him, Call her name Loruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away.
    • Error: The NIV reads: Gomer conceived again, and gave birth to a daughter. Then the Lord said to Hosea, "Call her Lo-Ruhamah, for I will no longer show love to the house of Israel, that I should at all forgive them.
    • The wording in the NIV implies that YHWH will never forgive Isreal, which is not the case. The original Hebrew, in this verse, is clear to say ... for I will no longer show love to the house of Israel, but I will forgive them -- as the King James supports: To "take them away" probably refers to them going into captivity in Babylon.

    • Matthew 1:25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
    • Error: The NIV omits firstborn.

    • Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
    • Error: The NIV omits bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you -- but it is there, referenced and quoted in a footnote.

    • Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
    • Error: The NIV omits For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. -- but it is there, referenced and quoted in a footnote.

    • Matthew 6:27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature ?
    • Error: The NIV omits one cubit and stature and replaces it with who can add a single hour to his life? -- but it is there, referenced and quoted in a footnote.

    • Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
    • Error: The NIV omits of God.

    • Matthew 8:29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
    • Error: The NIV omits Jesus.

    • Matthew 9:13 But go ye and learn what [that] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
    • Error: The NIV omits to repentance.

    • Matthew 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
    • Error: The NIV omits for my name's sake saying simply because of me ... evading the use of the sacred name YHWH .

    • Matthew 12:35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
    • Error: The NIV omits of the heart.

    • Matthew 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with [their] lips; but their heart is far from me.
    • Error: The NIV omits draweth nigh unto me and replaces it with honor me.

    • Matthew 16:3 And in the morning, [It will be] foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O [ye] hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not [discern] the signs of the times?
    • Error: The NIV omits O [ye] hypocrites.

    • Matthew 19:9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except [it be] for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
    • Error: The NIV omits and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

    • Matthew 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God : but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
    • Error: The NIV omits [that is], God.

    • Matthew 20:7 They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, [that] shall ye receive.
    • Error: The NIV omits and whatsoever is right, [that] shall ye receive.

    • Matthew 20:16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
    • Error: The NIV omits for many be called, but few chosen.

    • Matthew 20:22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.
    • Error: The NIV omits and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?

    • Matthew 20:23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with : but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but [it shall be given to them] for whom it is prepared of my Father.
    • Error: The NIV omits and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with:

    • Matthew 24:9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
    • Error: The NIV omits for my name's sake saying simply because of me ... evading the use of the sacred name YHWH .

    • Matthew 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
    • Error: The NIV omits wherein the Son of man cometh and makes no note of it at all.

    • Matthew 27:35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
    • Error: This vital passage is deleted in the NIV -- but it is there, referenced and quoted in a footnote.

    • Matthew 28:2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
    • Error: The NIV omits from the door.

    • Matthew 28:9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
    • Error: The NIV omits And as they went to tell his disciples.

    • Error: The NIV omits this entire sentence and makes no note of it at all.

    • Mark 6:33 And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.
    • Error: The NIV replaces him with them and omits and came together unto him.

    • Mark 7:8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, [as] the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
    • Error: The NIV omits [as] the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
